How to Clean a Bombilla

Rinse the bombilla with hot water right after use, and deep clean it every few weeks with a brush and a soak in hot water with white vinegar or baking soda.

Daily rinse

Right after your mate, run hot water through the bombilla, blowing through it or flushing it from the top so the yerba leaves the filter.

Deep cleaning

Once every two or three weeks, soak the bombilla in hot water with a spoon of baking soda or a splash of white vinegar for 20 to 30 minutes. Scrub the inside with a thin brush and rinse well.

Bombillas that come apart

Some stainless steel bombillas have a spring or screw system that lets you take the filter off. This makes it easy to clean every part and is the best option for regular use.

Fixing a clogged bombilla

Soak it in hot water, push a thin brush through, and rinse until the water runs clear. A bombilla that clogs often may have a poor filter.
